DTF starter kits compared
Print width decides how big a design you can print in one go. "Powdering" is how the adhesive powder gets applied and cured: by hand, with an oven, or with an automatic shaker.

How to choose a DTF starter kit
- Do you already own an Epson ET-8550 or ET-8500?Then the conversion kit is the cheapest way in. It adds DTF ink, film, powder and CADlink RIP software to the printer you already have.
- How big are your designs?A4 (8.2 in) covers chest logos and small prints. A3 (13 in) covers full-front t-shirt designs, which most shops need.
- How will you apply the powder?Most starter kits are powdered by hand and cured in an oven or under a heat press. Choose an oven bundle or an automatic shaker once you print every day.
- How much will you print?Under a few dozen shirts a day, a desktop A3 kit is enough. Beyond that, look at a printer with a built-in shaker or a 24" production set.

What is a DTF starter kit?
A DTF starter kit is a bundle with everything you need to print your first direct-to-film transfers: a DTF printer (or a conversion kit for your own Epson printer), DTF ink, transfer film, adhesive powder and RIP software. You add a heat press to apply the transfers to shirts.
What is the cheapest DTF starter kit?
If you already own an Epson ET-8550 or ET-8500, the ET-8550 DTF conversion kit is the cheapest option at $749. The cheapest kit that includes a printer is the Procolored F8 starter bundle at $1,899, and the A3 Procolored K13 Lite starter bundle is $1,999.
Does a DTF starter kit include the printer?
The Procolored, xTool and Audley starter kits include the printer. The ET-8550 kit is a conversion kit: it includes DTF ink, film, powder and CADlink RIP software, and you supply your own Epson ET-8550 or ET-8500.
Which DTF starter kit is best for beginners?
For most beginners, an A3 kit such as the Procolored K13 Lite starter bundle is the best balance: it prints full-front t-shirt designs, has automatic head cleaning and comes with ink, powder, 100 m of film and RIP software. If you already own an Epson ET-8550, start with the conversion kit.
What else do I need besides a DTF starter kit?
You need a heat press to apply transfers, a way to cure the powder (an oven, a heat press or an automatic shaker and dryer), and a Windows PC for the RIP software. Plan for refill ink, film and powder as you print.
