Frequently Asked Questions
What Printing Technology Does the xTool Apparel Printer Use?
With one click, your design is printed and cured in just 8 minutes. Simply heat-press the film onto any fabric. The all-in-one software lets you manage design and printing in a single program, eliminating the need for multiple tools and making DTF printing faster and beginner-friendly.
What Are the Advantages of the xTool Apparel Printer Compared to Screen Printing and Sublimation?
Unlike sublimation printing, which is limited to light-colored polyester fabrics, the xTool Apparel Printer works on all fabric types and colors. It performs exceptionally well on cotton and polyester, producing vibrant, durable prints that remain bright and wash-resistant over time.
Is the xTool Apparel Printer Difficult to Maintain?
You can track key performance metrics through the xTool mobile app, which provides real-time status updates. If the system detects an issue it can’t resolve automatically, the app sends clear alerts with step-by-step guidance, ensuring minimal downtime and hassle-free operation.

Is xTool DTF Film Hot Peel or Cold Peel? Will It Affect Workflow Efficiency?
Although peeling at higher temperatures may occur before the adhesive powder fully solidifies (above 110°C / 230°F), the warm-peel process is designed to deliver consistent results while saving time. By eliminating long cooling delays, xTool’s DTF film significantly improves workflow efficiency, making it ideal for high-volume and commercial apparel printing.
Can You Use Third-Party Ink or DTF Film with xTool?
For DTF film:
- When not using an xTool shaker or baking system, third-party film may be used if powder application and curing are done manually.
- When using the xTool OS1 Shaker Oven Machine, only xTool-approved DTF film is supported, as the system is specifically calibrated for it.
Using genuine xTool consumables ensures maximum reliability, consistent results, and smooth operation.
Is the xTool Apparel Printer Compatible with All Fabrics? Are the Prints Washable?
Prints produced with the xTool Apparel Printer are highly durable and washable, withstanding 50–100 wash cycles while retaining their vibrant colors, sharp details, and overall print integrity.
What Is the Cost to Print a T-Shirt with the xTool Apparel Printer?
This brings the total production cost per T-shirt to around $4–$6. In the U.S. market, custom printed T-shirts usually retail for $20–$40, allowing for a potential profit margin of $14–$36 per shirt, depending on pricing and volume.
What Is the Recommended Temperature for the xTool OS1 Shaker Oven? Is Preheating Required?
Preheating is strongly recommended and can be easily activated from the printer’s control panel. For best results, allow the OS1 to preheat for about 20 minutes. While the machine can be used without preheating, skipping this step may result in less consistent or suboptimal curing quality.
How Should xTool DTF Film Be Heat-Pressed? Is Double Pressing Necessary?
Recommended Heat Press Process:
1. Preheat the Fabric
Place the garment on the heat press and preheat for 6 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
2. First Press
Temperature: 160°C (320°F)
Time: 6 seconds
After pressing, move the garment to a cooler area and allow it to cool for 10–20 seconds, then peel the film promptly.
3. Second Press (Recommended)
Place the design back in the same position and press again using the same settings: 160°C for 6 seconds. For best pressure distribution, position the design in the center of the heat press.
4. Optional Third Press (Large Designs)
For large print areas, a third press is recommended. Reposition the top and bottom sections of the design into the center of the press and re-press each area using 160°C for 6 seconds.
Following this pressing method ensures strong bonding, smooth finish, and long-lasting xTool DTF prints.
